Kraft Korner - 50th Bday card for my M-i-L

Hi all! As you have guessed, my experiments into cardmaking are in full swing :) And this time, it is stamping!! I was just waiting for a perfect occasion to make use of all the information gleaned from Stamping videos on youtube and I did get a very special one...

The celebration of fifty years of a woman's life which has had a mixture of joys, challenges, sufferings, incessant work, achievements, tribulations and what not is no small thing. Especially when it is your mother-in-law's! So, I wanted to make it more special for her through this card. And I had to do it late at night after she slept so I could maintain the surprise :) All the pics have been taken at night, so pardon the lighting and picture quality.

For the cover, I have used a normal print paper on which I've just used a little pink distress ink dabbed on to the acrylic block itself. And I was indeed stupefied at the transformation of a simple white sheet into a pretty background! And for the scenery, I have used pigment inks and Wildflower stamps of Tech Tuesdays. Embellishment is lent by pink glitter foam flowers from Itsy Bitsy and pearls.

Here is the inside of the card:

I have used kundan stones to form the magical numerals and stamps again for the sentiments (Everyday - Wow! Sentiments and Kaisercraft Mini Flowers) as you can see... The background has been made using a normal white sheet again by rubbing a sponge dabbed first with a little orange ink and then with blue. Here's a close-up of both the stamped portions:

So, do you like it? I'd love to learn more stamping techniques from you all too.. In fact, I've been avidly going through my fellow crafter friends' blogs on stamping :) I wanted to link this to Itsy Bitsy's Pretty with P Challenge but couldn't complete the card within time :-(
But then, no problem.. There's always a next time!

Along with the card, I made a sponge cake (again a first-time effort) which turned out just perfect... And when she saw the goodies, I really don't know who was more delighted - she or me :) Creating something new is very very liberating... Don't you all agree?

    1. Thanks so much, Radhika.. I didn't take any pics of the cake. But here's the recipe for you:

      Ingredients:
      Maida - 1 1/4 cup
      Sugar - 1 cup
Eggs - 5 (white and yolks separated)
      Butter - 60 gm
      Baking powder - 1 tsp
      Vanilla essence - 1 tsp

      Method:

Sift the flour along with baking powder thrice. Set aside. Preheat oven to 180 deg C. Beat the yolks well in a large bowl till it is fluffy using a hand blender. It should almost double in volume. In a separate bowl, mix the butter and sugar well. Add this along with vanilla essence to the yolk mixture. Now clean the blender thoroughly, dry it with a towel and then beat the egg whites in a bowl till soft peaks form. (That is, if you touch and lift the blender from the mixture, it should retain the blender marks). Now, add the yolk-butter-sugar mixture to this. Dont mix now. Add the flour too through a sieve and gently incorporate into the egg mixture uniformly. Take care that much of the air beaten into the eggs is retained. Grease a cake pan and pour the flour mixture. Bake at 180 deg C for 30 minutes. Let it cool a while before you slice it and enjoy!
